Because English was my second language, writing has always been a place of solace for me—I’ve always felt more comfortable expressing myself in the written word than spoken word. I truly believe that writing in all its forms has the potential to communicate, connect, redefine, and transform.
At LATS we believe multilingualism is a strength.
While we offer writing support in English only, our student staff is familiar with a diversity of languages with a wide-range of comfort levels. With each writing facilitator, you'll see a list of languages they're familiar with, as well as how comfortable they are in each of those languages. Five-diamonds (♦♦♦♦♦) means fluent and one-diamond (♦◊ ◊ ◊ ◊) means elementary proficiency. Being able to think in multiple languages will only make your writing richer. We hope by showcasing our staff's multilingualism, you feel more comfortable exploring the writing process in different languages with them.

Hi! My name is Dennys Rodriguez and I’m a 4th year Marshall College student studying Communication and Sociology :) I’ve always loved creative writing, finding myself writing up countless of short stories, poems, and even songs throughout middle school and high school. It wasn’t until 11th grade that my wonderful AP English Language teacher, Mr. Brown, introduced me to the idea that academic writing could be just as colorful and personal as creative writing. Since then, I fell in love with academic and research writing, determined to use my voice and prove that there’s space in academia for all kinds of voices and writing styles, despite the rigid structures we’re used to. My goal as your writing facilitator is to help you feel confident in your writing ability and to meet you where you’re at. I can’t wait to work with you!

Alessandra (She/Her)
LATS Writing Tutor
Language(s): Spanish ◆◆◆◇◇
Hello! My name is Alessandra and I am a third-year, Seventh College student double majoring in English and Communications. As someone who has had dyslexia all their life, I am well aware of the challenges that writing can present for those who are neurodivergent. However, I can also attest to how the right support and encouragement can transform those challenges into strengths. I firmly believe that everyone has the potential to become an excellent writer. As a LATS facilitator, my goal is to foster a judgment-free space where you can explore your unique voice and develop confidence as both a communicator and writer. If you book a session with me, you will enter a space where you are respected, heard, and supported. The key to great writing starts with removing self-doubt and allowing yourself the freedom to learn and grow.

Annika (She/Her)
LATS Writing Tutor
Language(s): Italian ◆◆◇◇◇ Tagalog ◆◇◇◇◇
Hi there! I’m Annika, and I am a 3rd year Literature/Writing major at Revelle College! I’ve found writing, especially in university, to be a fluctuating monstrosity—some days it’s easy to get the words down on the document, other days I’m barely able to write a single sentence. But I find the most important thing to do when I have no idea what direction to take is to find out what I care about it. I’ve spent hours brainstorming and writing on whiteboards, had workshops and discussions with friends—all to uncover not just how to write effectively but why I’m writing in the first place. Being able to care about writing lets me put a piece of myself into my work, personal or academic, so that I will feel proud of it by the end. And I am wholeheartedly committed to doing the same for you as a facilitator, embracing your experiences and preserving them in your work. Writing is a human act—writing cannot be human when you aren’t allowed a voice. So I want to help you hone your voice and utilize whatever thoughts you have, from the mundane to the life-changing. I’m willing to help with any assignments you have, especially for HUM or LTWR, and even any personal projects you’d love to share with me!

My name is Danna and I am a 4th year Psychology Major from Marshall College with a Minor in Literature/Writing. Although English is not my first language, it has become one of my favorites because of the command and creativity that it gives me in writing. So I understand the struggles that it takes to learn a whole new second language and find structure in writing. I find that in writing, you have to take it slow when you can, because it can feel like too much a lot of the time. That’s where my tutoring philosophy lies! I hope that I can help students to the best of my ability, and provide enough support for them to feel at the very least a little more confident in their writing. In my spare time, I love reading books and any type of Chinese fictional novels online that I can get my hands on.

Hi, I’m Alex, a third-year Literature major with a Theater minor at ERC College. To me, writing is like creating another dimension, where there is only you and your thoughts, free from other matters in life. It’s a safe space to create, reflect, and release yourself. Writing might help you find an answer to certain questions, but this path might not always be smooth. As a tutor, I aim to provide light in the darkness on your writing path and help you find your answer. Whether academically or personally, I’m here to listen to your struggles on your path of writing and help you along the journey.

Hi! My name is Grace, and I am a Revellian and 3rd year Anthropology: Archaeology concentration student with a minor in French Literature. Most of the time it feels like writing is the best thing to have happened since sliced bread, but sometimes it can feel like a looming, impending doom. But it doesn’t have to be! The process should make you always want to write more, and I want to help you discover that desire. Together, we can cultivate your writing into a transformative space that allows you to express your thoughts without any limits and develop your confidence as a writer.

My name is Ash, short for Aiswarya, and I’m a 4th year molecular and cell biology major in ERC. To me, writing has always been a crucial means of conveying diverse and authentic ideas and perspectives, be it for an assignment or a journal entry. At LATS, you will find a community that’s excited to guide you in your writing journey so that we can all learn and grow, together. I strongly believe that there is no “one-size-fits-all” process for writing, and as your writing facilitator, I hope to provide the support you need in finding your own process, and your own unique writing voice. I am happy to assist with academic works such as literary analysis, research papers, and MMW assignments, but would also love to help out with resume and cover letter writing. Excited to meet you!

Hi, I'm Cydney! I'm a fourth-year Muir student majoring in Literature/Writing. I love to help with assignments that deal with literary analysis, creative works, argumentative/persuasive essays. My tutoring philosophy is that tutors are here to help you gain confidence in your writing skills and understand value of it. Within my own life, I've struggled with low confidence in my ability because of lack of diversity to essays, articles, and books. Thus, I had to learn that my voice is important in writing and practiced using that voice while improving my writing skills. My advice is that everyone has the ability to write, but you have to believe in that ability within yourself in order to improve. -

Hi! My name is Janice and I'm a Marshall third-year double majoring in Linguistics and Literature. That might be enough information to deduce that I care about words. A lot. At the beginning of my college writing journey, I worried that I would have to stifle my love for creative storytelling to make way for the rigid structure of academic writing. Now, I've learned that I don't need to treat each skillset as a separate entity, and I can actually unify them into a visually and rhetorically refreshing singularity that is stronger than the sum of its parts: a writer's voice. Your writer's voice is the vessel for your beliefs and lived experiences, and as a writing facilitator, I hope the team and I can help you grow comfortable contributing your authentic self to the scholarly conversations you'll encounter both inside and outside the classroom.

Hi I’m Kayla, a fourth year Psychology major at ERC! Writing has always been something I have struggled with. Although English is my strongest subject, I constantly put myself down for not being a perfect writer. It took my years to realize that the focus of writing is about developing your writing style and expressing your own distinct identity. My love for writing, making a positive impact on others, and the diverse community at UCSD is why I chose to become an OASIS writing facilitator. To me, being a tutor means to help others find confidence in their writing and providing an outlet for people to develop their writing styles! Some writing advice I have is to always start your writing projects and essays early! I learned that this prevents me from feeling rushed about during assignments and gives me lots of time to brainstorm! Writing may seem intimidating at first, but you can’t improve without lots of patience and practice!

Hello! My name is Michael and I’m a fourth-year in Warren College double majoring in neurobiology and art history. Although I’m most experienced in writing academic pieces such as scientific research papers and analytical essays, I also have experience in writing short stories and poetry. To me, writing offers a unique opportunity to express your thoughts, feelings, and ideas. However, it can be challenging and frustrating to know where to begin. While writing may seem intimidating at first, I’ve learned that bouncing ideas off another person and gaining new perspectives have really helped facilitate my own writing processes. As a writing facilitator, I hope to help you discover your unique voice and craft. I want to help you create work that you are proud of.

Hi! I'm Okalani, a third-year Political Science major in Marshall College! As an individual who finds solace in the written word (largely in lieu of struggling with verbalizing my thoughts a lot of the time), I love using the page as a space to articulate using my voice, on my own terms. The writing process is one that has no set methodology. College writing can be extremely daunting at first, especially in instances where certain assignments urge students to use their writerly voices, as if several of us haven't been burdened with strict formatting requirements and sophistication points for the duration of our high school careers. As a facilitator, I want to serve as an outlet through which you can find your voice in a manner that you see fit— without the overwhelm that comes with trying to modify it for a set of criteria. I truly believe that your writing evolves as you do, so my goal is to help guide that growth as you continue your journey at UCSD.

Hi! My name is Ryan and I'm a third-year Literature/Writing major in Sixth College (with a minor in Political Science as well!). Writing has always been my path to self-expression, whether that be in the academic or personal sense. I write to relax, vent, debate, solve, or externalize my creative conscience. Even more critical to the writing process than letting your creativity and logic flow freely is also letting collaboration do so. As a LATS facilitator, I hope to leave writers feeling confident in their work through thoughtful conversations that seek to unfold and understand their points of view (on and off the page!).

Hello! My name is Supriyaa and I’m a third-year at Revelle. Writing has always been a place of solace for me - a medium through which I can entwine my thoughts and ideas and convey them to the people around me. I am particularly passionate about creative writing. Simultaneously, my background in STEM and the Revelle humanities course sequence has helped me develop my technical and academic writing skills. Being an international student from India, I also understand problems related to differences in the way people articulate and communicate, including having different accents. As a LATS facilitator, I will work towards gaining a holistic picture of your background and ideas, and use them to help you craft your write-ups for various purposes, whether it is academic, professional, or personal. My goal is for you to be able to effectively express your personal narrative and ideas to people from diverse backgrounds. Writing does not have to be daunting! -

Hello! My name is Sydney, and writing is my favorite challenge. Even though it's my passion, I know that writing can put the best of us in a slump, myself included. I can provide my best assistance when it comes to argumentative and explanatory papers (i.e. College Writing Program assignments), creative fiction and nonfiction, and even poetry, and I’d be happy to help you get more comfortable with these types of writing. Together, we can work to build your confidence with writing, and hopefully, I can show you that it’s not as scary as it seems!
